Mikko Fritze, the current director of the Goethe-Institut in the Netherlands (Amsterdam), has been appointed as the director of the Finnish Institute in Germany from June 2021 on by the Foundation for the Finnish Institute in Germany. Fritze will be the successor for Dr. Laura Hirvi who has been the institute’s director since 2015.
Born in Tampere in a German family, Mikko Fritze spent his childhood in Finland where he attended the German School in Helsinki. He continued going to school in Cologne and studied German language, paedagogy and biology at the University of Hamburg. He has been working at the Goethe-Institut in five different countries, among which as the director of the Goethe-Institut in Finland in 2010−2017. Before that, he was the director of Foundation for Tallinn – European Capital of Culture in 2007−2010.
